I knew for a couple of years that it was inevitable but didn't know how I was going to come up with money for an attorney. I finally got pushed into it when I got an order to garnish my wages at 25% (student loans were already garnishing 15%) for a personal small claims lawsuit that I didn't bother fighting. I got that notice from my employer on a Saturday, searched for "DIY Bankruptcy" to see if that was even an option, found this forum was ready to file the following Friday pro se. There have been some headaches along the way but it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. This is the first time in my adult life that I will not have some sort of debt and can plan for the future.
    12/05/08 - filed pro se
01/27/09 - case dismissed and closed - 02/24/09 - case reopened and dismissal vacated
    04/01/09 - new 341 scheduled
    6/02/09 - DISCHARGED!!!

I realized last July that BK was in my future. Due some BT's Im still waitng. It'll be a year in June from my last BT so I'm hoping to file in July/Aug. That should do it. So it'll be a year or 13 months.. Geez I sure didnt think I'd still be in this mess when I wanted to file last July...This too shall pass

        Around 2 months.

However I was under pressure from the pending lawsuits where I had been served.

I was also the most prepared person the paralegal had ever seen. I had been going to go pro se then found this forum and ultimately decided not to go pro se. I got the tax return that year and paid the lawyer .

We decided a few weeks ago to file after battling a sinking ship for way too long. We're waiting till Aug to file to let some income drop off so about 3-4 mos from the time we made the decision.

          08/10/09 341
          10/16/09 Discharged
          02/01/10 Closed

It was six months for us. We intended to file right away, but nothing really seemed to work in our favor as far as getting our attorney paid. In that six months, I had to replace my fuel pump, my windshield, my tires when three wouldn't hold air, two cv joints on my car, and a window motor. For a long time I felt like our life was just one disaster after another, but somehow once we filed everything fell into place.

came to the realization last October, That I would never be able to pay the CC's. wife has been on and off unemployment for 2 years, and my hours got cut last September. In the planning stage now, waiting for some BT's to age, and income to drop lower. I will be slightly over median for Ca. but my expenses are very high. Plan on filing later this year or sooner if a creditior sues. Stopped paying CC's in March.
              Stopped Paying CC's 2/2009. Retained Attorney 1/10/2010 Filed 1/23/2010. Discharged 5/19/10 $187K CC, $240K 2nd,$417K 1st, No asset Ch-7
