    6 figure income? There's hope...

Just had my 341 meeting and was a little concerned because of my wifes income level and my new contracting position. She is at 6 figures and I am at 70k contracting. I was offered this a few days after filing.

Our 341 was in Atlanta and was pretty standard. We brought all of the recommended items like our tax returns but we were never asked for them. Just SS card and picture ID. Our lawyer had been telling us the entire time that it was all we would need. But I have read here how some of them had been wrong, so we came prepared and it made me feel better as well to have done so.

No creditors showed up for anyone. About 20 people were there. I had used about 10k in June for home repairs and a tv when I thought I had secured another position that ended up not panning out. So I was a little nervous about that.

When he asked what had changed I told him I was contracting and he never asked for how long, when did it start, or for how much.

I had about 100k or so of unsecured debt inluding some medical bills and he never questioned it. He did ask about my house note (3,600 a month) and if we could afford to keep it and that was it.

I have a pending law suit for an auto accident and he said if it looked like it would come to less then 15k (our exemption limit) he would abandon it. He asked for my lawyers number that was handling the case.

Thanks everyone for their support and I hope this gives other high income filers hope.

A few comments about my lawyer. We did NOT like the guy when we met him, but he was the only one of the 4 lawyers we talked with that had no bar complaints and was not trying push us to a 13. He was very competent but his personallity really sucked. Now, what I liked about him is the fact that he knew his personallity sucked so he used a partner to be the front person for his 341 meetings. Over all I would recommend the guy.

Good luck to all and keep your head up. Mistakes are only foolish when you repeat them. Now, if we can just get through the next 60 days without any challenges...

You should be fine, check Pacer in about 10 days. (your lawyer may have a sucky personality, but evidently he makes up for it in brains)
We had additional income right before discharge and called attorney - gave her the amount and she said it wouldn't matter & it hasn't gas prices ate it and more.
I'll be watching, you may never know when or how, but I'll be there. I am there now....

Your situation is a true inspiration of hope...

My wife and I have about 125K of household income, $2900 per month in housing costs (rent alone), and 300K in unsecured debt in Ohio and matching expenses that net negative per month...

I have been terrified that the Trustee will laugh us out of the 341 and claim that we don't need to live where we live and that on our income we should be in a Ch. 13...

Thanks for sharing, keeping our fingers crossed...

Thanks for sharing your story. I too have been stressing about our income. Family of 7 (even though some of them should be out of the house by now) and income of $110,000. We keep thinking the trustee will try to tell us what we can or should have been doing. Maybe someone needs too, because we have screwed up--LOL! Family comes first though--you find that out after you lose someone near and dear to you.

dittos for me. our 341 is oct. 25 and I'm scared, too, that the trustee will laugh us out of court. Our income is around 95,000 for a family of five. Mortgage is 2100, more than the federal allowance in my state of 17 something. But the hard and fast rules aren't in play yet. So hopefully all will go well for us.
