Make sure they are approved in your state:

They are generally a cheaper alternative to CCCS who charges 50 dollars, I think hummingbird is much less or it was when I filed.

I know it can make you sad but I also have usually less than 100 dollars a month discritionary. What it means is things like no TV etc. But you have to decide where to cut for yourself.

Yes, definately look into food stamps. It sounds like you qualify.

At least you have a place to stay, a roof over your head - think about all those people who are homeless.

My bf and I are both umemployed. He was able to qualify for food stamps. They look at things like how much you make compared to your bills and how much income you have left after paying your expenses. If you really only have $20 left, you should qualify.

I go through those feeling too - mine are more of the failure variety. I was once poorish and didn't get paid much and i struggled - if it were not for cc's I wouldn't have made it through. Than I switched careers got a great paying job and than got laid off and lost it all and now I am back to being "poor" again. I had finally left like I "got somewhere" with the good paying job finally and now I am back to starting all over again.

I try to be thankful that I have a place to stay right now (rentfree) so I won't have to worry about that. I am just going to ride out my BK and try to get back on my feet.

Another plug for food stamps! Sounds like you may even be able to get them expedited since you're really broke right now. I'm in Michigan and applied on April 1st. I just got my food stamps/bridge card a couple of days ago but I didn't need the case expedited. Every little bit helps right now. My kids also get free breakfast and lunch at school. Never thought we'd be in this position. 2 college educated parents with the potential to earn a very comfy income are now low income. This world is such a difficult place right now. I never imagined in a million years that we'd be filing chapter 7 let alone getting free breakfast and lunch, food stamps, and medicaid!
