homemaker wife can't exempt joint tax returns?

    Our trustee is a tool.

She just objected to our exemptions, saying my wife isn't entitled to exempt her half of our JOINT bank account or half of our JOINT tax return...on the grounds that she doesn't work.

Our atty just fired back, explaining how we both must sign the tax return check and therefore she is part owner. We'll see what the judge says.

I thought I'd get a break since I had very little unsecured debt. Now I'm so angry at these people that I wish I had racked up a couple hundred grand before filing just to spite them.

The bank account is crazy. All exemptions have always been worded like 10,000 for a house unless filing jointly so amount is doubled, etc etc. Not per income earner.

The tax return I have heard alot of dif ways they get prorated due to filing time of the year. One poster here was filing single but married and they took half of his portion of the return. However in my state I have to use a wildcard to exempt the return I don't know what your exemptions are but I can't say I've heard of a tax return exemption so maybe your attorney is trying some sort of cash exemption.

But I agree your both taking the credit hit you are both discharging debts you are BOTH liable for. The law should protect both regardless if you made 1 million or 1 dollar.
