Just as an additional input to what everyone has stated, they can put it on your credit report with as little as your date of birth or street address! Credit reports aren't "really" by SSN, but SSNs are good to link people to their credit. The CRA's (credit report agencies') systems are so good, they can untangle a web by related addresses and map you down to the first place you ever lived and obtained credit! They can do this with just your name and street address.

So, it's not necessary to have an SSN to have an account listed on your credit report. This is done often, and American Express does this often (when additional cardholders are added). I've added many family members without SSNs, yet the cards show up on their credit report.

The Sears card I am on with my mother is just a regular store card and not one of the Sears Mastercards, so my situation may be different, but it is not listed as included in bankruptcy on my credit report, nor has my mother's credit report been affected in any way.

Ok so I called my American Airline miles card with Citibank and asked a rep. She told me you only need a name and they mail out the card. I asked about it being on the authorized user's credit report and she said no, unless you give the SS#. She said when you want to take the person's name off...call back and destroy the card or they can send you a new card and number.

Side note, she was so nice and helpful...i kinda felt bad....knowing that in the next month I wont have the card and will have filed ch. 7. Oh well, shouldn't have jacked my rate up for no reason.

The department store (Boscovs) required that I sign and give my SS number to be added on my hubby's account; they told me that is what they do and I would just be listed as an authorized user which I am and have been for over a year. It is not a joint account. I have a card in my name and on my credit reports I am listed as an authorized user and the account is in my husband's name only. So it may vary by business to business as to their authorized user requirements.

The key to the credit report is the address! You can run a credit report on someone with just their name and address.
