    Update on case

I filed 3/09 and had my 341 a few weeks ago. There is nothing much on PACER. So far things are going smooth

I am less stressed now but really want the discharge to come soon.

I am able to keep my car even though it is with a credit union I owed another 15k to. I did not have to sign anything. They just told me to keep paying.

I am doing my required 2 hr chapter 7 counseling this weekend. Another 50.00 down the drain =(.

It is HARD to live now though. I never have money. My pay runs out usually a few days before the next payday. It is a scary new world I am living in now.

I have no idea what I will do in case of emergency. What if my car breaks or an appliance?

This is my new life. It is bittersweet at times.

It's worrisome that you've filed and even without paying unsecured debts and any secured debts you surrendered when you filed, you are still having so much trouble making ends meet on what you make.

Have you created a budget yet? If you have, how well are you sticking with it? Has something happened after filing that's forced you to spend more than normal (car repair, health problem, etc)?

If you are tightly sticking to a budget and haven't had any unexpected expenses, then you have only three choices for long term financial success. You have to find a way to bring more income into the picture, surrender an asset while your case is still active, or reduce your living expenses even further.

Unfortunately there are really no other realistic options. Everything else (selling valuables, donating blood, etc) are just temporary measures - they don't fix the long term problem of not earning enough to support your current living situation.

So.....why do you think you are running so close to the financial edge after filing?
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

06/10/11 - Trustee confirms all payments made

How much is your car payment?

Now is the time to do some soul searching....make sure you are not keeping the car because it is the easy thing to do. All those little things add up too - trips thru the drive thru, movies, subscriptions, cable/sat, cell phone plan...etc. Time to be brutal with your budget. Start with zero - go from there. Believe it or not - it can be a liberating experience.

My car payment is under 300 a month and it is a nice car. I would let it go if I had another car but I don't. If I turned in my car I would have to finance another car which would likely be crappy and break down a lot.

I need a car because there is no other way i can get to work. Without a car I would be jobless.

Student loans are the real choker for me.

I make 37k yet I am broke even with no more unsecured debt. Sad isnt it?

Sad has nothing to do with it. As IPRN and SO say, you need to look at your budget and start cutting expenses or bring some more income into the house.

What is you rent payment? Can you get a roommate?

I did my post ed class for 14.95. Look online for a cheaper class.

I read this wrong the first time and thought how many years is your loan if your payment is <$300/month and the balance is $15,000.

How much longer on the car loan...that should help out some.

I have 4 yrs left on the car. The 15k I mentioned was other loans and a credit card I had at the same credit union as the car.

Have you sat down and looked at your bills? We had our home phone service shut off about 30 days ago and saved $30 a month by doing that. We both have cell phones and never used the home phone. Some people say well $30 is not much but guess what it is. It is a tank of gas. Also when you get gas in your car are you using 100% gas or gas with ethanol? You should use 100% gas. Will get more miles per gallon and will not cost as much in repairs down the road for your car. Do you have any prescriptions? Can you find a way to get those cheaper thru a different place than you already do? How far do you drive to work? Can you rent someplace closer to work and save gas money there? have you looked at another part time job maybe on one day a week that you do not work at your other job? you can work for a cell phone company and not only earn that extra paycheck but you also get your phone plan at a discounted rate. IE: My plan is $20 a month because I work for a cell phone company. There are lots of ways to cut back on things that you really don't "need" versus what you think you need. Hope that helps.
