Congrats from me as well - and your case is obviously what I expected. Harsher rules for people with BK/bad credit are simply not realistic for the auto industry. There are soooooo many people in trouble right now - too many to simply deny them a new car.

So it seems what they CAN'T afford is NOT to issue credit - and not the other way round..

I have received some mailings from a local ford dealer saying they finance right after bankruptcy.

For now I am keeping my car. I love my car.

I am afraid of it breaking in the future though since I have 4 yrs of payment left and no warranty.

I doubt the MINI dealer would EVER approve me again after I had a chapter 7

Dang I took Ford Motor Credit out on my BK for $49,000.00. Yup I owed $49,000.00. Should I say it again.... I owed Ford $49,000.00. Hmm think they want me back??? LOL. I can tell you people out there that I went from a $49,000.00 SUV to a $2000.00 SUV that is paid for. It is very hard doing that but I just keep telling myself that my car is paid for. MY car is paid for. My car ispaid for. LOL. It is all a mind game.

if I had 2000 laying around I would buy a junker and give back my beautiful mini. It would take me too long to save even 2000!

Amazing that when you look in the mirror, the exact same person who used to drive a $49K car owned by Ford but now drives a $2K car owned free and clear is still staring back at you. But now the $2K driver has a BIG smile on his face and is a heck of a lot less stressed!

It's about time we woke up and got it through our thick skulls that we are NOT our stuff! Having reliable transportation is all that really matters - the rest is just empty marketing creating a demand that is just a very expensive illusion.

The $49,000.00 SUV was a FORD!!!!! It was a 2008 Ford Expedition totally loaded up with every option. LOL. How stupid was I?? Don't answer that.

LRPRN--you kinda lost me in that response. I think it was positive but oh well. It was definatley a hard lesson learned.

So far I have dumped about $1500 into this $2000 SUV but still don't have that much in it. Book value is about $4000 so I am still good as far as what I have actually put into it. I know most people don't have $2000 laying around because I didn't but had to borrow it from inlaws and the car is in their name until discharge but I have already paid them back for the whole car and paid for repairs on it. So technically after discharge it can be put in my name. Wooohoo!!!!

It does but what I have noticed more is how it feels to be able to pay all my bills every month and have extra money left over. I never knew what this felt like and it is awesome. We have cut back on everything possible to lower our outgoing monthly bills and it is amazing what you can cut back on. So yes it is awesome to know that every time I buy something I am paying for it with money I actually have and not money I hope to have in the future.
