How much is it to register for PACER? And how do they charge 0.08 per page...when you print them or just view them...does that include the status of ones case? Or only if you want to look at your actual documents filed?

There is no charge to register for Pacer, but charges are incurred for both viewing and printing.

I don't know what's worse...
the frustration and anxiety before filing and your whole world seems like it's caving in, or the nerves and anxiety after filing praying for it all to be over.

It's been an emotional roller coaster and the ride isn't over.

I was wondering about when I should start looking at PACER too. Once I get my case number, I guess I can spy on myself than.

I thought for it to be free I had to registar and wait until they send me something in the mail.

I don't think it's free either way...if you don't give some kind of payment method when you register, then they send you log-in info through the mail but I don't know about billing.

The billing is for viewing and printing pages, not for the "instant online registration".

I wonder if they can bill you for taking a "screen-shot"?

I'm not sure on this though so you may want to start a thread and ask so more people get to see your question.

I was wondering the same thing when I was reading this thread. I doubt they can, but they could have a feature that could somehow disable doing a "Print Screen". The only way around that is a screen capture program like snagit or something like it.

I know when my wife and I filed our taxes online back in early February, we had to print our state form (it wouldn't let us e-file for state) and it cost us $15.00 to print what we needed to send in.

When the time comes for me to check out Pacer, I will have to try the print screen function just to see.

First of all, go read through the PACER frequently asked questions at http://pacer.psc.uscourts.gov/faq.html . The answers to every one of your questions is there.

It is absolutely 100% free to sign up for a PACER account.

The $0.08/page charges come from a formula that calculates the number of pages on a web-formatted document that pulls information from the PACER database, but most of the charges come from viewing .pdf document pages by opening the document on your computer screen to look at the individual document pages. The page charges have nothing to do with printing.

What savvy PACER users do is open one of their case documents they want to see, pay the $0.08/page charge once, and then save the document to their own hard drive. That way you can open and look at the document as often as you want and never pay to look at that document again.

Again, the answer to every question you might ever have about PACER is right there on the FAQ page. It's well worth reading through it if you already have or are considering getting a PACER account.

I just registered for the PACER and logged in and did a query. I have no case number yet so just used my SNS. There is nothing for me yet in there. Said, "Sorry no matches". But it still looks like I got charged .08 - said Billable Pages .08.

Hmmm, I got charged .08 for looking at a blank web page. I don't like that.

I am Bankrupt - it should be free. At least to check status maybe not to look at documents.

My lawyer said last Monday that he was going to wait until next week to file. I hope they haven't forgotten about me. If I don't get a letter by end of the week, I will call and check to see if he filed me yet.

When he files me, does it automatically get put into PACER? Or is that separate from actually filing the case? Do all lawyers use this? My lawyer works by himself so no big firm to deal with.

Well, no more logging in there for me until I get my case number. I don't want to spend .08 cents on nothing. (yeah, I know it is only 8 cents but if you are a bankrupt person they could at least make some of it free. Just my 8 cents...ha ha!)
