    New Account number?

Received a letter last week... that Citi-Financial was changing my account number and changing the branch to North Carolina. I filed BK7, but have not had my 341 yet...yes, they are included in the filing.

I am going to inform my lawyer of this on Monday, but am extremely curious now.... Are they trying to get out of the BK by doing this? They informed me i will receive bills monthly with the new account number.

HSN did this to me. But luckily it was before we filed. For some reason when it became past do a couple months they sent the bill with a different account number. Nt sure why.

I don't see how changing the account number or branch servicing the account would give them any ability to collect on the debt outside of the bk. Simply keep the letter stating they are changing acct#'s and mailing addresses as a record that both the old and new account are one and the same.

Thanks.... I thought this was just weird and was wondering if it was there way of trying to keep the account going.

I got a letter from Beneficial telling me they were closing all of their branches and not accepting new loans. They gave me the address to send in my payments and told me that I could also make them online.

I haven't made a payment to them since December '08 and told them I was filing. They haven't called me in over a month. I imagine that they are being hit hard with folks who can't pay and are filing BK. They were always looking to lend money to those of us who were already over our heads in debt.

When they loaned the 10K to me, they wanted all of the info on my home which has 20K in equity in it. (They did not use it for collateral...it is an unsecured revolving loan.) Our State homestead exemption was then only 5K....so they gladly loaned me the money I wanted thinking that if I defaulted they could put a lein on my home. Now our State has increased the exemption to the Fed amount of over 20K which protects my house from being taken. Little did they know......at the time. And if you take my situation and figure in all of the others they loaned money too....thinking they were safe because of equity. OOPS!!!!

I have learned alot during this experience and am willing to face my bad financial judgement so that this is not repeated. I hope they have learned a lesson too.

          D....

If Citi-Financial holds your mortgage, it's possible that they transferred your mortgage over to their bankruptcy division and assigned it a new account number.

It's not unusual for very large financial institutions to transfer accounts internally to a different accounting division that handles all their bankruptcy accounts. That's what our mortgage lender did after we filed Ch 13.

As long as you listed Citi-Financial when you filed and you keep the letter stating they changed the account number, you're fine. Just don't ever lose those precious originals! I would suggest sending a copy of the letter to your lawyer as well so it can be kept with all your other Ch 7 filing documents.
