I filed Chapter 7 on December 29, 2008.
I let go of two vehicles (credit union and GMAC) and a $65K boat (same credit union) and included about $50K in credit card debt. ($35K Bank of America, $6000 Citibank, $6000 Discover, $1900 to a different credit union, and a couple others that I honestly don't remember.
My case included a charge up of $6000 which was made on 12/5/2008. I just knew that they were going to come after me for it but to my suprise they didn't lift a finger. It was discharged!!!!
I bought my house in May of 2008 and kept the home and have paid monthly payments since filing. The only thing that happened was I was not able to make payments online and had to mail a check. Frustrating, but that'll go back to normal.
We received a $2200 tax return last month and were able to keep it.
Now for the next round of good news...DISCHARGED ON DAY 67!!!
This forum helped me a ton so I owe many thanks to those who answered my questions.
During my bankruptcy I changed jobs, got a new bank account, and turned my life upside down. Bankruptcy was the best thing that I could have ever done for myself and if you're afraid then I say jump head first into it and let the universe work its magic. I wouldn't have been able to take the job that I'm working if it hadn't been for filing.
I feel like there is so much I'm leaving out so if anyone has any questions let me know!
