For example, I KNOW that Washington Mutual was acquired by Chase so if I owed either one money, I would make sure not to bank with them same idea between Wells Fargo and Wachovia. Don't certain large banks own the smaller ones? How can I find out who knows what? The bank homepage doesn't seem to help.

Here is another interesting site that has a little more detail on failed banks, credit unions, etc.
