We had a lot of cc debt with USAA and left USAA insurance on the advice of our attorney. Last month my husband called them to discuss coming back. They told him that if we had left it alone they would not have dropped us, however now that we are gone we have to wait 7 years from date of filing before they will let us come back. It was a risk at the time that we had to take. We are now with State Farm. No problems with them, they just are not as easy to deal with as USAA was.

Can any insurance company drop a customer simply on the basis of having filed bankruptcy?Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out. -Rick

We had USAA auto insurance on our cars and USAA life insurance when we filed Ch 13 almost three years ago. We also had a USAA Mastercard with charges over $8K, but USAA did not file a claim and did not sell our MC debt to third party collectors either.
We were ready for the worst, but when my husband (on the advice of our lawyer) talked with USAA about a week before we filed, they told him that they would not cancel us or raise our premiums as long as we paid on time and continued to do so after we filed. Now after nearly three years, our auto premiums have not increased since we filed and we've been renewed for our life insurance with no questions asked every year.
I think if they we going to, USAA would have tossed us under the bus long before now.Last edited by lrprn; 04-03-2009, 03:24 PM.I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
