I've had my share of CA harassment over the last 15 years. The first one was over a check accidentally bounced for a whopping $5. I told this guy I would pay the $5 but he was asking for $50 which as a single mom and starving college student I could not do. This guy ripped me apart telling me I should drop out of college because clearly I'm too stupid to balance a checkbook. He also tried to tell me to borrow it from my "boyfriend" who answered the phone. I told him that wasn't my boyfriend and he tells me "that's not what HE said." That "boyfriend" was my very openly gay roommate. Then I turned the conversation around and said "Wait a minute, you're telling me to drop out of college over a $5 check because I'm too stupid but tell me what have you done with your life? You work for a sleazy collection agency trying to threaten and rip off single moms and little old ladies. Maybe YOU need to rethink YOUR life." He hung up on me. So I called him back. Several times. Then he told me he was going to call the police because I was harassing him. LOL. I've been numb to these desperate and pathetic jerks ever since.

The good guys lose sorry I couldn't resist.

My buddy Mike did this 4 years ago and couldn't stomach it. He had sold used cars and was a mortgage broker before. I would love to see the looks on the faces of the beer drinking crew that were spilling the beans to the undercover camera, when they got fired for running their mouths. Now that would have been priceless.

I'm with dingdong. After surviving months of calls I'd gladly buy some of this debt and make it go away for others permanently on the cheap. It would be wonderful to just help someone make at least one phone call never call again.

They really should do a Dateline on CashCall Inc. Talk about sharks! They get people when they are desperate and charge 95% interest on large cash loans. If you are one day late on a payment the calls start, at 8AM on the auto dialer and stop at 9PM sharp. They go all weekend even if you make your payment because it's "too late to take your number off the auto dialer." One of them told me they were going to send someone to my house to have a talk with me. I told them that wasn't wise as I have a large who took his job protecting us very seriously and a stun gun and their henchmen would walk away a lot more shaken up than I am. If there's one debt I was HAPPY to have served with notice of filing, they were it.

It's scary that the owners were convicted felons.

                How did they get bonded?

What I would really like to know is what is so big about a phone call? I've changed my phone # many times since 2003. Why can't other people simply do this? Why stress out over it? I never did. I learned my lesson in the early 1990's from that other George Bush recession.

I just feel bad for whomever gets re-assigned my phone # after I've changed it.

Ever since I got the Google Voice, I no longer have problems. I can't wait for this service to be available to the public. All of you will absolutely love it.

debtmonster my DH can't receive CA phone calls at work because it would put his job at risk. So it would be nice like you to just change my phone number but it wasn't possible. Glad that solution worked for you but it's not a solution that will work for everyone. Besides by answering the calls we weren't sued and when the atty files our bk tomorrow we survived without risking the equity in our home (yes we are still right side up in our mortgage) with being sued.

How can I get what works for me to work for everyone else?

I have no stress over all this and I don't want anyone else to be stressed neither. I want everyone to be happy.

I will have a PC setup to record and log all phone calls. They will have a hard time messing with me as I know all their tricks and my rights thanks to places like these forums. It sucks that people's lack of knowledge allows them to be terrorized by these people.

Retire the debt forever and beat the weenie CA's at their own game.

Say you buy a portfolio full of debt that is very close to SOL so a 1000.00 debt was purchased for 20.00.

Offer the debtor a 20.00 pay off and then they ( the debtor) can sleep at night.

It would be nice to beat the jerks at their own game.

It would be like a CA co-op. It would really only work with junk debt but it would be cool to buy up all the debt and then just let it go for whatever the OC sold it for instead of screwing the debtor and adding ridiculous fees.
When I hit the big one I just may open the DingDong Collection Agency and let everybody off for next to nothing.

So if you ever get a dunning letter from the Ding DOng CA, don't be afraid to open it, and I promise I wont call ( unless I need to borrow a cup of sugar)
Well, I have a deep seated hatred for certain collectors right now, so I get the sentiment completely, but the problem with this is that you'd do nothing but operate at a loss here since you'll never get 100% collection. :\

Pook, I hope you said this in jest after the dismantling of virtually ALL controls over these industries.

Many states have little or no requirements as to someones background for almost anything - including being a mortgage broker, those that put us in this mess.

I hate capitalism. I'd move to another country RIGHT NOW but my wife refuses to leave.

For the money I spent on my bankruptcy attorney, I could have used that for plane tickets to go to some other country.

I agree with some things about capitalism, but not everything. It's just enough for me to not want to stay in this country. I wish there were a slew of better alternatives.
