My attorney told me to get a cc with a small bank before filling, and do not use this card after discharged.

All large banks receive bankruptcy reports everyday so when you filed your name will be on this list. Therefore, these banks will shutdown your account. However, with a smaller banks they don't get these reports. So if you have cc with them your account might be still active and good to use. This is a good way to rebuild your credit again.

You will get CC offers in the mail after the BK is discharge, so there really is no reason to do it ahead of time and run the risk of them closing your account. Keep in mind, many small bank CC's are co-underwritten by larger banks.
