We filed Chapter 7 on 12/2/08 and it was just discharged on 3/11/09 (Yeah!).
My 2nd mortgage is $294.00/month. For the past 2 years I have been paying $6.00 extra just to have an even $300 payment amount. I checked 2nd mortage account history online the other day and the extra $6.00 has not be applied since Dec. The account history shows they received but did not apply it to the principal. I emailed them asking what happen to the extra $6.00 for the past 4 months.
I received a reply that states the amount is accumulated as a suspended balance and that I need to contact the bankruptcy department to have the amount applied to my suspended balance.
We did not re-affirm the mortgages (per lawyer's advice) and have just keep paying them. I didn't know that additional payments would not be applied.
I'm going to call their bankruptcy department today and have the extra amount applied to the balance but I just hope they don't start talking 'reaffirmation". I'm glad they didn't suspend the online access to my account or I would have never known that this extra amount wasn't being applied to my principal since they no longer send statements.
Has anyone else had this happen to them?
