Met with other lawyer, now to decide who..

Well like I said, I met the other attorney I was considering and now I'm kinda stumped. His price is 1360, the other was 1700 with both being the total for filing, 341 and all that stuff. The cheaper guy gave me some forms to fill out if I go with him that would allow him to complete the paperwork and then he would email or regular mail them to me to look over. The more expensive one said that if I go with her an appointment is scheduled for around 2 hours of filing out the paperwork with me bringing all the needed info with. It seems the higher priced is that way because of a more personal touch, which seems decent enough. So I'm torn, save a couple hundred bucks and have a bit less face time with the lawyer or spend a few hundred more and have the lawyer there filing out stuff in front of me! They both said about the same time to get everything together to file but the more expensive one seems to have more support to make sure it happens on our schedule. Well anyways, any advice is appreciated in making the decision.

GO with what your gut tells you! A couple of hundread bucks now, in the long run is a no brainer!

They are spendy because they have to put their signature on all that they do now!

That's what I'm kinda thinking, that you get what you pay for. Biggest issue I suppose is that either one, it'll take me over a month to get that money together either way.

Well I should mention that it'll mean paying no bills, right now I make about 1200 a month until construction starts again.

Wow...that price is cheap. Here in northern CA my lawyer charge 3500+299 for court fee. Are they overcharging here?

They overcharge for almost EVERYTHING here in CA........lol. That's why I filed pro se.

I think the choice of your lawyer is really, really important. I paid all of the fees for the lawyer I hired before I realized he didn't have enough experience in small business to point me in the right direction and advise me. I have spoken with about 6 more lawyers over the phone and have chosen one to meet with tomorrow. Based on my experience with the first one, I have lots and lots of questions for him and one of the most important is "How available will you be to me throughout this entire process to answer questions?" The first lawyer was warm and friendly when I met with him the first time and after that was always too busy to answer even the simplest of questions. So many people post their questions on this forum because they aren't getting the answers they seek from their own lawyer. If I choose the lawyer that I am meeting with tomorrow, he'll cost me more than the first one, but I don't care. There is over $100,000 of debt on the line for me. If this guy can get me through this process successfully, it will have been worth every penny.

If the lawyer you choose is not available to you during the process and does not somehow communicate support, then he or she is just going to add to your stress. I hope you choose the lawyer that promises the highest level of communication and support.

My husband and I put down a deposit on a lawyer who at the initial meeting said we had an easy chapter 7. The following week while filling out paper work he said that we had too much equity in our home and could would not file for us until we made the numbers work the way he wanted them to work. I found court cases and rulings that did not support what he said and called him on it. He refuses to return our calls or emails. Make sure who you pick has the time and is realy listening to what you tell them. I am now hiring another lawyer who listened to our numbers and is willing to take the time so we file right. The funny thing is he charges less than the first lawyer. We should have known something was up when he based his fee on how much debt you have. Good luck!!!

I really think I should start a database of good vs bad atty's, I am a DBA... dang so many people would benefit. I mean come on, I know more about which car to buy vs who can help fix my life!

I know you can call your local court and sniff around asking the clerks how atty's are but....

Hmmmmm, maybe I will just do this. Consumer reports lawyer style!

I had a super simple BK, didn't own squat, no house, no car, not a lot of creditors on my matrix and the attorneys wanted 2000.00

I love my attorney, she only cost 299.00!

But man was she *****y!
