    Filed and Freaked

    I am officially filed for Chap 7. IN THE CLUB!!
    Received all of my official paper work from my attorney the other day.
    Is it normal to be freaked out... I have a crazy mixer of being freaked out and excited. Still worried about my job finding out.... i think they would understand my situation if they find out and approach me. They give me good ratings at review time, so hopefully they will overlook it.

    Most people on here seem to have had positive experiences with filing.... I have not seen anyone have an issue with work either.

    Does or do anyone else worry about there job on here?

    It is illegal for your employer to lay you off due to filing BK. I don't even think they would know unless you had wage garnishments or so happening. I will let you know how I feel when I file if I have the same gut feeling. Probably so. Congrats on your first step!

    11/03/2009 - scheduled 341 - COMPLETED
    01/04/2010 - last day for objections
    01/11/2010 - DISCHARGED & CLOSED

      They will not find out unless you tell them.
      And yes it is a bit freaky when you file you may second guess yourself too but in about 4 to 6 month you will be debt free.

        You always worry a little but for me filing day was a relief. They'll be other hurdles, I think I really started feeling better after the 341.

        As pointed out above you cannot be fired/laid off/etc for filing bankruptcy.

        My work knew I filed, I was pretty straightforward about it. I also had to have copies of all my check stubs for the last 6 months and I don't keep them.
        May 31st, 2007: Petition Filed by my lawyer
        July 2nd, 2007: 341 Meeting Held
        September 4th, 2007: Discharged and Closed.
