I live in Florida and will be filing Bk probably early May, my second meeting with lawyer is early April. I believe I can file 7. I live with my 2 kids and my house has been on the market for 18 months with no buyer. In doing the means test they are giving me a dollar amount of 763 to go towards mortgage/rent expense, their is no way that I can rent a place for 763, will I be able to put an amount in the adjustment line if I can show them that in my area the rent expenses are at least 1,000 - Thanks

I'm from Michigan and I am supposed to be able to pay rent + utilities for $1,086. My rent is $1,000 and my heat bill alone is $400. I'm renting a 4-bedroom home because it's me, 3 kids, and a home office (I'm self-employed). I used to rent a suite of offices for $1,4000 a month, so in reality, I am saving a lot by working out of my home.
My lawyer said I could only go up to the max allowed, no exceptions. Yet, some people on this forum were advised by their lawyers to put their real utility costs in--and then bring their utility bills to their 341.
I think it would be hard to argue the rent thing. When I was looking at houses to rent, I found some for less, but they were real dumps or or were in bad areas. Maybe we're supposed to live this way if we're filing for bankruptcy. I don't know, but I couldn't do it.

I looked around and could not find anything close to that amount, unless like you said move to a bad area, then I would have to take my kids out of their school because of zoning issues and put them in another school. I am also in the same boat with the non-mortgage expense - actual costs are much higher that what they give you
