Are student loans enough to build credit???

OK, so I just gave my lawyer my packet of information to start the filing process, but I have a few questions about the best way to rebuild my credit.

I will be moving to Boston in august to continue my education. The tuition is about $10,500 per year, but I will have to get an apartment and a job on my own. I currently have $52K in private student loans, $9k for my car @ 9%, and $20k in credit card debt.

I will be discharging my cc debt and keeping my car and obviously my student loans. My question is this: will the student loans alone help to rebuild my credit or will I have to keep my car to rebuild it?

Since I will be moving to the city, I really will not need my car because Boston has such a good mass transit system. I really don't want to keep my car because I don't want to make the payments or pay for the insurance. I really do not want to get another credit card because I fear that I may use it to frivolously.

One of my friend's (who filed BK over 10 years ago) said that I should keep my car to rebuild, but I'm thinking the student loans might be enough.

What are your thoughts? Experiences? Knowledge?

Yes, if the loans are reported to the bureaus then they are part of your credit. Keep in mind though, if what you owe on the loan is close to the origination amount, it will hurt the score a bit. This is especially true for people who consolidate their loans. Albeit, this isn't as bad as 'maxing' out your credit cards, but nonetheless student loans are a line on your credit.
