Umm, HHM, we are not cheap, just financially prudent ( I mean broke!)

I have kicked my PACER habit, only query once a week and just to see if my date of last filing changes in case a creditor gets nasty.

Oh, and I spy on a particulary interesting case in my district, for purely nosey reasons.

I think he was just playing around with you. I wouldnt take offense to it.

My attorney said in some states, the Trustees can take it all and there is no way for them to exempt it. Your state may be one of those. My refund is $5856 and the Trustee is keeping a little less than half.

What are chance's that the lawyer will get repeat buisness from the same client? At point in time a lawyer doesn't care about getting referrals from their clients.

That is just the thing, it doesn't have to be that way. BK is not a commidity like Gold or oil (meaning, it doesn't matter who you buy from).

There are BK attorneys that care about customer service. And yes, even BK attorneys (the smart ones) care about reputation and repeat business.

                Thanks for posting BnkrptcyLwyr!

I'm sure that your post today will help many people reading it, both now and in the future, to help keep our cases in the proper perspective and hopefully have a workable relationship with our lawyers!

Now, if there was just an easy way to find out which lawyers are good and if I can work with them and afford their fees ???

Calling your attorney every day does a lot to foul our moods sometimes.

We KNOW that our clients are in pain (believe me!)

Not every problem of the clients can be resolved two minutes after you call. There are procedures ... and sometimes it's going to take 3-4 weeks to get it resolved.

NO ... YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY CLIENT WE HAVE.

Yes, sometimes we must take care of the other clients first (it's kinda like a triage unit in our office where the people in the worst shape are going to get treated first ... out of necessity).

I do have to show up in court a lot ... and that means that it might take me several days to get around to answering your phone call.

No ... just because you paid me some money to do your bankruptcy case does not mean you get to call me two years after your case is ended and expect free advice forever and ever.

In bankruptcy court, things move fast and furious (relative to other courts) ... and the phones are ringing off the hook in a bankruptcy attorney's office. Every client has something urgent in their case.

But remember ... we DO understand ... we know what you're going through ... we see a lot of pain and heartache every day. If you think your story is sad and pathetic ... just remember that there is someone who is always in worse off shape than you.

The greatest thing about being a bankruptcy attorney is being able to guide my clients into getting their financial house back in order. I take my job VERY seriously. When things finally work out, it's a great feeling to know that we were able to help our clients - the relief on their faces is palpable.

So, don't take it too personally ... bankruptcy attorneys are very busy right now ... with a lot of anxious clients ... and sometimes we get a little touchy too.

This explanation should be delivered prior to the client handing over the fee to the attorney. Unfortunately, attorneys are actually salespersons prior to collecting the fee and many fear scaring the client away with these truths.

Addressing the client's expectations early can go a long way toward smoothing the process. Attorneys should explore these expectations before money changes hands.
Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out. -Rick

I think your attorney didn't think you would read into the tone of his email so much. He was probably trying to be funny to get you to stop worrying, and it came out in text a little harsh? Basically he's telling you that nothing bad is going to happen and checking PACER is only going to make it feel longer. I think. haha
