we've got an abundance of "it's a breeze!" posts about the 341 but i thought i would add my insight and experience too.
we went to our 341 meeting bright and early at 8:00 AM. it's held at the US Trustee office in our city which was intimidating, but no US Trustee was present. we were the only pro se filers and got called up last. apparently the debtors with attorneys go first because they hold meetings hourly and many of the attorneys had clients for the 9:00 meeting they wanted to talk with. so DH and i got to watch everyone else. a few people got grilled and it was obvious that the trustee did his homework, doing DMV searches and line-by-lining bank statements and public records. smart guy! i got a little nervous even though we don't have any "dirt" and i knew my paperwork was accurate but this trustee was hardcore, LOL.
ours went fairly quick. we presented our ID, answered the standard questions, brought up an omission we found (we forgot a savings account with a $0 balance that DH's parents had for him) and he reminded us to forward our tax refund check to him, confirmed that we are exempting our EIC portion of the refund (which is almost $5k, yay!) and wished us well. we were in and out in less than an hour, even with six meetings before us.
i've got a few loose ends to tie up and an amendment to file so i won't keep typing (this is getting long, no?) but i want to send a HUGE thank you to everyone who offered support and advice. hopefully the next 60 days are as easy as the rest of the process has been. i don't regret filing pro se and i feel that i'm walking away with everything i'm entitled to without incident -- and this forum has been a great factor in my success. THANK YOU!
