Renew My Passes? Tax Refund Question

DH and I are expecting a tax refund. We are going to spend it on getting our cars tune up, some clothing for the kids, stocking up on groceries, paying some taxes, getting our estate planning done and paying our bk attorney plus getting some gutters on the house. However, we normally take some of the money from tax refund to renew our Six Flags passes so we can take the kids any time during the season. We only live 15 mins from the park. Do you think the trustee would raise an issue with it if we were to spend money on that? It is about a $300 to $350 dollar expense.

    If you're above median, definitely!

I'm not. I'm not even close.

Does that mean there are different "standards" for people below the median?

Ok - then I'm changing my answer to "possibly", much more likely if you pay with a debit card or check. Consider getting yourself out from under all debt and building a strong savings first. This might be one year that you do without some of the things you really love, but it will be worth it in the long run for you and the kids.

I totally get changing people's ways and having a savings account, but I would get the tickets. I am not weighing in on whether you should get them with the tax refund or wait, but just the general idea of whether you should get the tickets or not.

Season tickets to Six Flags make for very cheap entertainment for the kids for the summer. Lets face it, you will have to pay something for entertainment for the kids/family and a day to Six Flags is REALLY cheap if you have already purchased the tickets. You can pack a picnic in the car for lunch and not purchase snacks there but ride all day long.

I have seen people say that they stop all "luxuries" until their savings is built up, including cancelling magazine subscriptions. The intentions are awesome, but ....in reality....that $12/year magazine subscription is costing $1/month for entertainment for how ever long it takes to enjoy the magazine. I don't get it...... we all have to change our ways but I think we have to be realistic at the same time.

No, but the purchases and spending habits of above median filers are far more likely to be scrutinized.
