Do I need Proof of Service for mail already sent?

I am filing no asset Pro Se in CA, and I received a letter from my Trustee asking for last year's tax return. I sent it Certified Mail, but now that I have been reading about, I am wondering if I needed to send it with Proof of Service. Should I do it again with the Proof?

    Thanks.

No, you shouldn't need to. Contact the trustee and ask if they have received it yet. It could have crossed in the mail or it could have just been a standard letter that gets sent to all debtors.

You don't need proof of service for things like that. You use proof of service when filing pleadings, motions, objections and other papers with the Court.

Generally speaking, anything you file with the Court needs to document proof of service within so many days of having served the paper. Something sent only to the Trustee does not required such proof.

However, I do commend you for using certified mail return receipt (CMRR) because you will have proof of delivery (not proof of service).
