OMG!!!! I'm so glad you posted that, my princess - her name is Trixie btw is invaluable to me. I hadn't thought about it, but she is a mixed breed (rat & fox terrier), so I guess I need to list her as an asset of about $200!!

If she is a mixed breed and fixed, you could probably list her value at 1.00 given that she can't be bred and produce a litter for income, ( not that she isn't worth a million bucks to you) Unless you have plenty of room in your exemptions.

She probaby doesn't have a real re-sale value as an asset.

I would probably have to pay someone to take my pets, they are definitley a liability, not an asset when it comes to pet care!

A lot of the petitions I looked at while doing research about BK listed family pets with a 1.00 value.

I have even seen homes with no equity listed for 1.00.

Well, I just got back from the 341. The Trustee actually asked me about the vet bills listed on my schedules and asked what kind of pets I have. I told her 2 cats, and one is really old (16 yrs). I never thought my housecats would be so scrutinized! lol. Trustee was nice; I listened to about 10 cases ahead of mine. None of us had any creditors show up. The Trustee seemed to ask the most questions to people who were self-employed. She seemed amused that I work for a creditor's rights law firm. I told her the irony is not lost on me; she chuckled a bit. All in all I think it went well, but of course since I'm neurotic by nature, I won't feel okay until this is all over. She did ask everyone what led them to BK, and most people had answers like a layoff, a divorce, medical issues, etc. My answer was accumulation of debt over time, which is the truth. She asked me "so you don't have the ability to pay it back," and she didn't ask this question of anyone else, that I heard. I guess she asked me b/c I haven't had one of the aforementioned life-altering situations happen to me. However, I am under the median income, so hopefully it's smooth sailing.

Thank you to everyone for all of your support. It's great to know I'm not alone in this, and to have a place to talk about the process.

Oh, so glad to hear that your 341 went so well Here's to an uneventful next 60 days!!!

Just curious, what amount did you put down for your vet bills? I'm a ch 13 and I'm putting my actual costs down for my animals (I have 6-one is getting kinda old so we have more expenses on his) since this is what I pay out each month.

Well, I'm going back over my papers to double check. I see that my cats are actually listed under Schedule B: Personal Property. It says 2 cats, value $0. My veterinary bills are listed under schedule J: current expenditures at $30. Not very high, so I'm unsure why it was something the Trustee felt the need to ask about.

I have no idea if it would pass or not, lol. So weird to me that the Trustee asked about it. I told my boyfriend maybe she was looking for farm animals, or something?! But it says right on the paperwork "2 cats." Plus we'd already been thru the fact that I rent an apartment right before that convo, so obviously I don't have horses or farm animals. I'm very over-analytical, especially after the fact, and I need to stop or I'm going to drive myself nuts!

No, I went in Tampa. Why, do you have to go to Orlando from Tampa, or do you live in Orlando?

I don't live in Orlando, but that is where the 341 for my area is... Sounds like your trustee was easy...I was just hoping she might be mine!

I was ill when the lawyer asked how much my dogs were worth! The are purbred Maltese and I love them more than my own kids (kidding, but it is close). I listed them as $50 total. I would give up my car before I would give them up! Someone needs to change this law, that is the craziest thing I have ever heard. I live in NH and belive it or not I am allowed to keep a cow, pig and sheep (honestly) as an exemption! But my dogs are not exempt automatically! CUT IT OUT! I have two teenage kids, are they exempt?

I have a $400 "EXTREMELY YAPPY" Chihuahua that will bite anyone that comes near me. Maybe I should have listed him as an asset. Just kidding - I love him dearly, but would have preferred him to be a tad bit less bi-polar.

My two dogs will pee and poop anytime, anywhere! Talk about Priceless
Daisy is sweet as pie, but Jack OMG! He has this one little quirk, he does not like to be touched or moved when he is sleeping. All night long he growls and bites me if I roll over. Sleep over anyone?

Oh my god oh my god! Thought I would just check Pacer before bed... slightly neurotic, eh, seeing as how my 341 was late this afternon?! Well.. guess what I see on there?

Yay! Yay! Yay! Now it's just a matter of 60 days to see if any creditors object, right?!
