    I hate my bank !

Yesterday a creditor took out money I did not authorize and it caused my bank to go .05 under. Today I had paypal sales money of 36.00 deposited into my bank. This was my gas, ebay fees and food money til next friday. They took it for fees because I was under 0.05.!

I really hate my bank right now!! Without that 36.00 my account is going to go under again when ebay takes their fees plus I have no gas money now.

InPain - this is not your bank's fault, it's the creditor who took out the money unauthorized. While it may only be a $.05 difference, if you read the paperwork you signed when you opened your account, if your account is overdrawn you get hit with a fee if you do not have overdraft protection. It could be $.01 difference and it would apply. I know it's awful cause the amount is so low ($.05) but the bank is in their right to take that fee. You need to close out that account if you don't want that creditor to continue taking out funds and this occuring again.

Call your bank and see if they will waive the fees. If you haven't had a lot of problems with your account, many times the bank will waive the fee.

Tell them that the creditor did not have authorization to debit your account, and that their action caused the negative balance.

IF the first person you talked to says no, ask for a supervisor. Be nice and polite and tell them it is a hardship for you at this time.

      You might be pleasantly suprised!

Worth a try anyway, couldn't hurt.

That really depends on what bank you're talking about.

It does depend on the bank. I tried it once in the past and got absolutely nowhere. I'm sorry this happened, I know it has to be stressful.

before getting too upset you should call and get a claim started for the unauthorized charges. They can also waive out whatever fee they took because the account go negative. It's not your banks fault, honestly. They are just the middleman. Be mad at the company that took out unauthorized charges. It's not like the bank is picking on you or anything- it's just how the system works. Go and give them a call for the fraud claim and speak with the supervisor if needed to get that fee waived. It shouldn't be an issue whatsoever if it was indeed an unauthorized charge. good luck

Yes, everyone has good advice. Call the bank and dispute the withdrawal. Not only will they reverse the withdrawal, they usually give back the fee also unless you've had a lot of NSFs or charge backs before. Also, check into what it costs to put an ACH block on that particular creditor so this doesn't happen to you again.

Definitely give them a call - and be nice! Remember, the person on the other end of the call is just a human being, like you, with problems of their own. I have not has this particular situation, but have managed to get late fees taken off credit cards and service charges off of checking accounts. Of course it depends on the bank and your history with them, but it is worth a try. I don't understand how the creditor was able to do this - did they have a judgment?

If you do, let us all know what happens!

inpain, i just wanted you to know that my bank did reverse some NSF fees for me - there's good advice in this thread, and there is hope. i think it works better when you bank with a smaller or local bank, though..

You have gotten some great advise so far!

Was the unauthorized debit done via a bank draft, with the creditor using the routing and account #'s of your checking account, or was it a Visa/MC debit "charge", using the 16 digit # on your debit card associated with the account?

If it was a Visa/MC debit, call the bank and dispute the charge just like you would if it had happened on a unsecured credit card. The should reverse the charges and fees, at least temporarily, pending investigation.

Either way, call the bank, but if it was a debit card preauthorize debit, it may be easier.

                        Hi,

How did this whole thing come about? Did you have a judgement against you and/or had you usen that account to pay off that bill in the past? How did the creditor get your account number?

I'm worried about my accounts and that is why I ask.

                        Thanks.
