    Question about case numbers

I took the 2nd counseling test online, I received my certificate but I just noticed something and was wondering if it's a mistake. When I took the test, it asked me for my case number, my case number has 8 numbers, followed by 3 letters after that, when I tried to enter that, it said it was the wrong format, so I just gave them the numbers. When I go to pacer and try to look up my case by case number, just like it is on the certificate, it can't find my case. Is this incorrect on my certificate? When I tried entering the entire case number inclding the initials it didn't accept it.

Is this going to be wrong when I file it with the court?

So long as the numerical part matches, you should be okay.

Most districts use the following numbering format...

            YY-XXXXX-AAA

Where YY is the two digit year ending (e.g. 09 for cases filed in 2009), XXXXX is the case number for that year and AAA are the judge's initials. You really only need the YY-XXXXX and the correct District in order to look up a case.

I don't think you'll have any problems so long as the name on the certificate matches yours and the case number is reasonable similar.

I wonder if it has something to do with the state or district.

Mine case number looks like this: 0−00−00000−dem, but now the certificate looks like this:
                00−00000, but without the dashes

If you are in a District which has multiple divisions, you get that...

                  D:YY-BK-XXXXX-AAA

                  D is the Division identifier
                  YY is the year
                  BK is fixed
                  XXXXX is the case number
                  AAA are the Judge's initials

You can always refer to the case number as YY-XXXXX.
