    I

    I wouldn't fall for it!
first of all if your friend intends to file without an attorney he surely have a lot of things to learn. so therefore i would go to an attorney first, for a free consultation. or you can ask in this forum, and browse to see any similar case like your friend has. second i would buy the Bk book like the nolo book for bk to also learn. you can ask the people here about almost everything if they dont know they will surely let u know about the option. besides the uscourt for bk offers a down loadable forms to fill up the petition.

make sure he meets the median income. well just browse and browse and post question

Your link does not work. Secondly, most of these places are only document preparers and cannot represent you in a filing as they are usually paralegals and not attorneys. They work from the paperwork/information you supply to them and if there are errors, you're stuck and on your own and out some cash. If you do some searches in this forum, you will find many postings about document preparation services.

I think some "Means Testing" companies, should just stick to what they do best and not try and scrounge every penny they can possibly can.

The "Lawyer story" seems VERY far fetched. They are right the case can be re-opened even if discharged (But no mention of fees and paperwork for such an occurance)

Nahhhh for me (Speaking personally) I'd rather have a lawyer along with me, then at least I know someone is looking to make sure I DON'T have a problem with my BK.

Some here have filed their own and while I'd never go that route, they seem to have done very well...Just not my cup of tea (I like coffee better!)

More and more BK districts are going after "doc preparers" and sanctioning them or filing criminal charges, due to their poor and borderline fraudelent work. Either read up on how to file yourself or hire an attorney.

          Good Luck

i have seen a lot of horror stories going through places that are just doc preparers. Like other said- if they mess up- it's on you basically. They can't help you. I also saw somewhere that the BK gets looked at more closely when a company like that is used. Honestly, i would just go with an attorney. I bought some books and have read a lot online; i could file myself- however i like the security that going with an attorney offers

Don't be fooled... and this "guarantee" is the kicker...

We guarantee court acceptance or your money back.
I used one of these places and ended up redoing most of the Documents myself... by hand.

The reason why? The data was all messed up and out of date. They wouldn't fix it when I told them their information was flat out wrong.

Their guarantee is only that the courts will accept the documents. Not that they are accurate.

              Caveat Emptor.

I purchased the NOLO online book mainly for info - intending to use an Attorney all along.

After reading through NOLO I was even more sure I would use an Attorney. - jb

I always believe in doing this type of stuff face to face. The last thing in the world you want is to be strung along on something as important as your bankruptcy. Listen to everyone's advice and hire an attorney. It'll save you lots of heartache and sleepless nights later.
