So many different pieces of advice...

The key is, you don't want them calling you at work. You send the letter certified mail return receipt -- so you know that they received it. Being specific that you aren't allowed personal calls at work just makes it very plain and to the point (and specific to the law).

Adding when to reach you just adds another layer of "hey, you have no excuse to call me anywhere else but home because I told you when and where you can contact me".

Again, I would send this certified mail return receipt for your records.

In the end, you want the calls to stop at your place of work, which is why you started this discussion thread.

What JustBroke said... It will work perfectly. My experience with Citi is that they will follow the law to the letter.

well peeps i sent a certified letter today just stating that i cannot have personal phone calls at work and would they please cease all calls at work. said they could contact me at home after 5. the only problem is i never answer my home phone so i will not know when they call. i do not have caller id. anyway i think if my husband will answer his phone every time they call him then they won't bother me at work ya think? they called me at work because he was not answering his calls i assume. so the next plan is for him to call the guy at citi monday morning and tell him we do not have the money but will let him know when we do have it. but we won't ever have it. we don't have anything extra right now at all.

If you have an answering service or machine... make sure it states your name. That way, they don't have to call anyone else or "think" they have the wrong number.

When you do speak to them, remember to give no commitments to when you can pay. Make no agreements and acquiesce to nothing. No matter what they say, threaten or promise. They can't get anything without a judgment and that doesn't happen overnight.

Great advice. Hopes the OP reads through all of this and realizes it is from people with experience in the very same situation....

i have read and looked things up. i will make sure we do not commit to anything and answer the phone when they do call so as to keep them from calling me at work. i appreciate everyone's help with the issue. you all are very nice people to be willing to help others like me.

and the saga continues....... omg!!!! like i said those people are rats!!!! they called yesterday and said if you do not pay in 24 hours we will file suit and have your wfire(me) served at her job etc etc. so mean. then he hung up with my husband and called my work and asked for my boss by name!!! tehn he hung up when i put him on hold at work. after he hung up he called my FIL at home about our account. the nerve of that man. so anyway the attorney said just tell them asap that you are filing bk and they should stop all the nonsense. so my husband calle dthem back and they said ok thanks. and that was it. so i guess we will see if they call again today. they are the worst. anyone have any further advice or experiences with citifinancial?? the anxiety from all this bk preparation and waiting 90 days is about to put me over the edge.

I would tell them to stop and document when you told them. Also, you may want to send them a certified letter telling them not to harass you at work. That way you have proof that you told them.

well lets just say the certified letter did nothing for them. anyway we finally told them we were filing bk and never another word out of them. Not one phone call. We have about 2 1/2 weeks until we file.
