I don't really see the point of using an attorney since I dont have any assets, I'm not being sued, I don't have a house being foreclosed on etc. I thought most no-asset individuals filed Pro Se since there is nothing that needs to be "fought." I f I had the $$ I would get an attorney anyways because it is confusing as it is. Oh and I told him I preferred to file Pro Se. Not that that was what I was going to do. Not that it matters though lol.

I said, "well i was hoping to just speak with you so I know what I need to do since I am still very unsure," He said that he doesnt feed his kids and pay his mortgage by giving "free advice." Was I a complete idiot for mentioning I wanted to file pro se? I am just in shock....
I don't mean to be rude but did you expect them to tell you how and and to file or something?
Your honesty is noble though. Not too many people would be that honest. We certainly need more people like yourself in this world. Call another lawyer up and just get a basic consultation. If you feel you are lying blame me for giving you this advice. If you are religious I will bare the sin for putting you up to it ;)Last edited by shabam; 12-17-2008, 07:10 PM.My comments are solely based on my opinion. The information and links that I have

I would shoot myself in the head if I only made $10 an hour for all that I do.

Many people are lashing out at you but lawyers DO give some degree of free advice. That's what the free consult is for. Like a lawyer advicing you not to offer more information than necessary at a 341 meeting, DON'T tell a lawyer you intend to file pro se. "I am considering filing for bankruptcy and am exploring all my options" is all they need to know.
I remember a lawyer that said he charged $50 for free consults, when I called, because his time was valuable. Okay, fine. I told him I planned on seeing 4 or 5 lawyers and if I paid everyone $50 just to determine if they were the right lawyer for me, then I am already down $200 to $250 before I even pick a lawyer.
Hey, contrary to what was written earlier you CAN go to a car dealership and extract info from the salesperson about a car, financing, performance, options etc, then test drive the car and walk away. Same with a retail store salesperson buying a suit at Men's Wearhouse, for example. There are services and professions that allow some level of unpaid infomation. Use it wisely.

Thank you so much to everyone who replied. I was afraid I was going to receive a severe lashing from everyone on here. LOL. To the person who asked, I am wanting to file now since my roommate and I will be making well over the means test amount if I start to work now. I was told (or read here I think) that if it is a roommate situation, they take both people's income into account. he is only going to be 8k away from the 51k means test amount for FL, so if I get a job, that would throw us over and then I could not file. I would rather just wait and wait and wait. I havent been sued and I changed my number and the only annoyance I have is the stupid collection letters. I am just afraid the longer I wait, the more hard it will be to get approved for 7 so I'm not forced into a 13. I would also like to start saving money as well and dont want them taking that from me. Thanks again to everyone. I appreciate any and all advice I receive on here.
