I just filed on Nov 25. my name was in the paper the following week. NO ONE knew that I had filed, my parents as well as my husbands are very judgemental and to be quite honest it was my own shopping problems that got me to where I am today. With all that being said my nosey old man neighbor (he is in everyones business) cut out the the listings in the paper and took it over to my in laws house (they live beside us) So of course when I was on the phone with my mother in law my very outspoken father in law started yelling in the background about my name being in the paper, ect. My first reaction was to lie I just can't handle them giving me a hard time on top of everything else I am going through. I am sick to my stomache and I want to puke. I just don't know what to do. I guess I just needed to "talk" to someone since I have no one around here that knows that I can talk to. Thanks for reading

In any event, Bankruptcy is a technical procedure and is designed to get you from underneath and control serious debt. Sometimes it's through no fault of your own (job loss, medical bills, etc.).

If your parents can't understand, then I don't know what to say. My mother was okay. Other responses vary.

Keep your head up. You have nothing to be ashamed of... newspaper or not.

Filing is supposed to be the one thing that gets your some relief, literally, and be somewhat (relatively) able to breath again. I know that in-laws can be worse than creditors sometimes! Especially when they live so close.

If you are having trouble sleeping or have other anxiety problems, please see your doctor. You will need to learn to deal with these people. Even though it may not be any of their business, they do it to stress you out. Just like the creditors calling all hours of the day.

Don't bend under the pressure. Seek help if necessary.

aw I'm sorry. what a disgusting no life old man-you must live in one small town. whatever this is your business and yours solely what everyone else thinks does not matter you made a decision to improve your life and get out of a mess, people talk but were they going to pay off your debts?-yah I didn't think so. Be proud that you are doing something to help your well being and financial health!

Sorry your going through this. I ran into the same problems with my in-laws. When they gave Dh and I crap about it, all I said was, unless your willing to pay off all our debt, then you have no right to talk about this with us. End of story!

why on earth would the neighbor do something like that; he's just no good at all. meddlers like him don't find much love in the world, thankfully. grrr. well at least you've done what you need to do in order to move forward and improve your financial life. good luck with that process and flip your meddling neighbor off once for me ;)

You should ask your in-laws if they would rather see there son and there daughter-in-law struggle and be unhappy or would they want to see you by happy? Its really something that they have no control over. Goodluck.

Sounds like your Neighbor has no Life so he has to put his Nose in everyone else's Buisness.

I all so know people like that. They like to see people down and than kick them.

Be strong your get back up. that will hurt your Neighbor more than anything.

Thank you all so very much for you responses! I hate to say that I am still a mess. My in-laws are "black bumper mennonite" and sadly they are very judgemental. I just don't know what to do.
I have to say I can't even stand to look at my neighbor at the moment. What an ass he is! He and his wife are offiicially on my shit list
I just have to get through the next couple of weeks and I should be ok. As long as the comments from the in-laws stop.

Ignore them. Lather, rinse, repeat. I had my name in the paper, but I denied it to many co-workers when they asked because I knew that there was another person in the area with the same name as me - I found that out through AAA one day when I went in to make a payment on my insurance.

So far, the only people that know what's going on are my sister and BIL, my mom, hubby (of course), his dad, and my manager at work. I had to tell my manager because it was company policy,
