Just wanted to post that we'll be switching to a new lawyer. I haven't paid anyone anything yet, so that's good. We originally went with someone local who seemed very nice (and I'm sure he is), but after 2.5 weeks of not hearing anything from him after we dropped off our stuff (with a letter & questions attached), I started to worry a little. I called Monday, left a message, didn't get a call back. I called again today, talked to the secretary, and she was rather foggy on the answers to my questions. She said she'd "ask the attorney and call me back about that." I wasn't really feelin' the love.
There was another one I talked to when we were deciding on who to go with, that I got a very good vibe from. I called back and talked to the secretary and I just feel much better about making the switch. Debt negotiation and BK's are ALL this firm does. Nothing else. They're committed to exploring options to avoid BK first, but if it can't be avoided, then they handle your BK - they really seem to hold your hand, which is definitely what I want from someone we're paying so much money to! The sec. told me that the main lawyer got into this because many years ago (while in law school), he actually went through a personal BK himself. I thought, wow. And I definitely felt like, even without being a client yet, I was getting some very personal attention. I feel good about this.
Anyway, there is no point to this post, except just to get it out there. I don't talk about this with my friends or family, so I'm so thankful for this site.
