Today was the day. Pouring down rain in Southern California the day before Thanksgiving.

I told my forum friends that I would post how it all went today. Well....smooth as silk!

No objections - No assets - No presumption of abuse - No creditors showed up for us (have to tell you that 2 other couples did have creditors show up though)

The entire event lasted 4-5 minutes in front of the trustee. Even though we are -$900 on our Schedule J, we get to keep our primary residence and the house for my mother-in-law AND BOTH vehicles.

We drove home saying "WOW" to each other. It was over so fast!

There was approx. 50 people in the room. The trustee would ask you a list of questions, then say "are there any creditors here regarding the xxxx case?" Most of the time he would quickly say "apparently not, so you may leave".

The first one was a credit union. They didn't get anywhere with their objection attempts.

On the 2nd one, 2 people walked up to the table to object. They represented the lender that carried the 2nd on a debtor's home in Palm Springs. The trustee looked at them and said "She's surrendering the home" with a look like duhhhh

The trustee never brought up the MIL home. He did ask if we were surrendering our rental house in Nevada. We said "yes" and he went on to the next question. He asked "have you given anything away in the last year?" I said "yes" we gave our son a used car since he was relocating to another state. That was it - on to the next question. It was much easier than I thought it would be.
