moving soon, should I delay filing?

I have had my condo up for sale for 16 months and I am finally getting an offer to submit for a short sale. I expect it to take between 45-60 days for the shortsale to be approved. If it is not, I will continue to live hear until they foreclose and then file. Yuck, its a mess. Stupid condo is what got me into this mess! I plan to file after the short sale in case my second mortgage company files a judgement.

Anyway, I am moving from Fl to Tn to live with my parents. Do I file in Tn using FL exemptions? Do I file in FL? What about my possesions? Will they raise flags (mainly furniture and my horse) if I move to another state?

You can file in the state you move to after 91dys living there but you can't use their exemptions yet. I just learned this. You use the state that you lived in the 180dys preceding the 2yrs before you file.

The above post is correct. you will have to use FL for the exemptions. So, research what the exemptions are in FL and also check the federal exemptions. We moved from Michigan and they have THE WORST exemptions I think in the US. But, they allow you to file using the federal exemptions. Don't know if FL lets you do that or not.
