Well - Sears closed my card this week too. The only card that I have that is still showing open is Gottschalks (a department store in California). It's been only 40 days since filing. Most cards closed within the first week though.

Just an update:
I paid the Macy's card balance in full from my previous purchase as planned! Then I used it to make one more small purchase. I have the cash, but if this account stays open and keeps reporting I am hoping it will help my credit rebuilding! I will pay it off before the bill even comes in the mail.
It is much better than applying for some new card and having the hard inquiry on my report...Filed Aug. 5, 2008

In any event I had a providian and capital one, and they both were in good standing with zero balances. Both closed on me and I haven't even gotten to my court date yet.
I think however for a nasty fee there are some places after filing that will allow you to get a low balance card. Some people have been doing that to help rebuild credit. I would think your mortgage and autos will help also if kept current?
I did that with an American Eagle card but they closed the account anyways.
