    Pre-employment background check

Does anyone know if BK shows up on a background check for employment?
    Chapter 7 filed 10/21/2008
    341 - 11/26 went smooth NO ASSET
Took 115 days after 341 - But Finally DISCHARGED 3/25/09

If they pull a credit report as part of the background, then yes it will show.

You could ask if they pull the credit report. Then take time to explain the bankruptcy as that could help you.

Yes, usually any public records of any kind will show up, but depending on the business you are in, it may or may not even matter.

Do a search on here as to your inquiry. There is a TON of stuff on here as to your question. To be brief, the answer to your question is "yes" if the background check includes a credit report. Most propespective employers in today's market pull credit reports and that will be stated on the job application you sign probably directly in the paragraph above your signature. You will agree, upon signing, to allow them to do a criminal background check, review your credit reports and could be subject to drug testing prior to employment being offerred. If you have any questions, ask them but once you sign and they have your SS number from that application, you agree to whatever is on there.

Then all you can do is wait 10 years for the BK to fall off the credit report. I might as well stay in school for 10 years and get a doctorate that whole time. By the time the doctorate is complete, the BK will be gone and nobody will know.

I work in IT field for almost 20 years now....from VOIP companies to Banks ....I did have my backgroud check done by some of them , I would say maybe 1 out of 3 did backgroud check , but only one included credit history check , and it was not a Bank ( most over 75k income)Even though I did have load of debt at the time , that never was mentioned or was an issue.

I signed the paper today allowing them to do a background check. I thought to myself "I am what I am", if they don't hire me because I have filed bankruptcy, then it is their loss!!! I'm not a criminal, never been arrested. I don't even have a speeding ticket. I will pass the drug test with flying colors - no problem. Sure a higher paying job would be wonderful, but if I am judged because I got hit hard from a terrible economy and had to file bankrupty, then I will just stay at my lower paying job and be happy. Right!!!

Let us know how it go, many on here advice to be honest with your interviewer about this,up front, if it become and issue. Also do not get discouraged, if you are being turned down cuz of that.Keep trying. The more time passes , the more chance you will have , and when problem will not be most recent anymore,(2 -3 years) noone will care anymore.Good luck.

                    GOOD NEWS!
Either the BK didn't come up on the background check or it wasn't a determining factor for the employer, but I was just offered the job. I accepted of course! I hope this is encouraging news for others. I plan to give my 2-week notice this Friday.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! That is such GREAT news--especially in this economy! I hope you will like the new job and that it will be a good fit.

I hope some of the Discharge folks don't mind, but I can't resist. Here you go:

That's great news! It all depends on the job or, in your situation, you filed just 3 weeks prior to applying for the job so it may not have hit your credit reports yet. In any event, I wouldn't worry about it and congrats on the new job!

I'm still pinching myself making sure I'm not dreaming this. I feel so blessed. I wasn't even looking for this job, I was recruited. I'm still going to be a hotel general manager, but now at a MUCH bigger hotel. Praise God.

Most pre-employement background checks will include a credit check. However, they must get your permission first, so they usually include a form for you to sign with your job application. If they find out any bad information that influences their decision, then they must tell you what it is, and where they got it, so you have a chance to correct wrong information. That is a requirement of the fair credit reporting act.
And they usually check for criminal records, which you can do yourself to see what might show up. In Rhode Island, the Attorney General’s office is located at http://www.riag.state.ri.us/. This site has links for the executive, criminal, and civil division. These links will be helpful in finding out more information for your Rhode Island background check.
