Washington mutual bought buy Chase....in a bind !!!!

Hi all, I changed banks due to my chapter 7. I opened an account with Washington mutual and 2 weeks later JP Morgan Chase bought the bank...sheesh. I haven't filed yet. I completed my on line counseling yesterday and my petition was sent to me yesterday as well for review and signing. should be receiving it on Thursday. Most banks want $100.00 to open an account which i won't have until this Fri which is when I have to pay my mortgage and my car loan on the 15th. Is my money safe in what is now JP Morgan Chase until I actually file. They are aware I'm filing chapter 7 but strangely enough they just sent me my credit card to renew....go figure !!!!

    Any advice greatly appreciated

Once you pay your bills on the 15th let the checks clear, close your Wamu account. If they ask you why you are closing your account so soon after opening it, just tell them that you don't want to deal with Chase.
    That's what I did.

Do you have to change banks if you don't have anything that is going to be filed in your chapter 7? For example I have used my bank for over 17 years and the only thing I have with them is my 2nd mortgage. I'm hoping I can still use that bank going forward.

My assumption is you have to change banks if you have something that is going to be discharged at your bank correct?

Unfortunately yes, I have 2 credit cards with them that are being discharged.

You'll be safe for a short while. It takes time for the banks to integrate, etc. But I would move even if you didn't owe money to Chase. I have heard nothing but evil, foul things about Chase bank.

          Good luck.
