    Odd Question on Birthday/Wedding Gifts

This is silly, but again, I'm wondering...

My birthday is on the 8th of this month, my 341 isn't until October 8. If I have relatives who give me money as gifts, do I need to contact my lawyer to let him know?

Also, my Wedding is after my 341. If someone writes me a check for X amount then, do I need to tell my lawyer?

As it gets closer to my 341 I find I have even more questions!!!!

Just don't put any of these amounts in your bank account.

Unless someone is extravagent and hands you a lot of money (I am not talking about a $20 or so gift card), you have nothing to worry about.

Funds received for your wedding will be to both of you therefore joint. If you expect a large amount of money, check with your attorney.

Oh good. I never get over $150 for my birthday from all my relatives combined. Would it be ok if I cashed the checks or would that look fradulent? I don't want to look like I'm doing anything underhanded.

Honestly, I don't think we'll get a ton of money for the wedding. We're registered at Bed Bath and Beyond, so I think a majority of it will be actual physical gifts and not cash.

        Thanks again you two!

just my $.02 - i'd hold onto the checks until after your 341 (avoids scrutiny) or cash them at the banks they are drawn from. remember that trustees are motivated by money; i'd hesitate to give them any reason to dig into your case.

Life is not worth living if you don’t have a little fun. There is a difference in taking advantage of the system and using it, or just living normally. A wedding gift taken from you or a Birthday gift, would make anyone think of Scrooge. As others above said, you aren’t getting rich on what gifts you will be getting but for those special occasions enjoy. You are doing nothing wrong by keeping your mouth shut on such special occasions. ‘Hub and Mrs.

              Thanks again all!

I'm still having a hard time, feeling like I'm living under the microscope. I know I shouldn't worry about every little thing, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
