I am praying no one I know reads the paper the day I file. But if the do and since I have a very unusual name, they'll know. What can you do though? I have 2 choices, let them take everything we do own or file BK and keep what little assets we have.

Our statewide newspaper publishes them weekly and all they publish are the names of the filer(s), city/town and the amount of assets and about of debt. Since our paper lists them once a week, they probably show up a few weeks or more after filing. Our paper lists the BK section quite prominently and you cannot miss it and have been doing it for as long as I can remember. All public information is posted including arrests, engagements, marriages, births, etc. The only thing not listed now due to privacy laws is the full address.

my wife and I filed the beginning of July. We recently moved from one end of the state to the other for my job. We thought no one really pays much attention to that portion of the paper but we too were worried. It was not published on this side of the state but 3 weeks ago we went home stayed with my parents and my mom asked me whe we didn't tell them..... I at first played dumb and said tell them what. She said about the bankruptcy and showed me the paper... Sucks but also feels good that it is out. I am sure some of our old friends will hear/see about it but no one has said anything yet and at this point I don't care. It was hard enough to come to the conclusion to file. Now we are almost in the 60 day club..(341 on monday) It is hard but as they say it does get better!!

There is a chance it will not be there. I know the paper you are talking about and I read in the paper in the past three months 600 bk filings yet in any given week maybe 20 names are published. Don't sweat it but I have the same fear you do and realized that this is what I need to do for my family and I have learned from all this

I'm pretty sure my postman knows.

I got a postcard the other day soliciting my business for the post credit counseling course from some company. This just pissed me off and I thought this was pretty classless considering the spiel was there for all to see. You have filed and we can do this, and we can do that, yada yada yada.

Now seriously, I doubt that my postman has time to read postcards. But how was that a sound business decision from the solicting company? (I'd mention the name if I could find what I did with the damn thing.)

PS--I guess this is one of those few times I am lucky to live in a large city. I don't know anyone who even reads the paper anymore. The LA Times is a sinking ship. Most people get their news from the internet. The only people that I know who still subscribe do so for the coupons. I doubt it will come out but if it does, so what? I am not frightened or ashamed anymore. Been there, done that, got the public record.

That reminds me, wait until you get stuff directly from the BK Court and we all do - it is prominently listed in the upper left hand corner of the correspondence. It doesn't come in a private wrapper/envelope. If anyone gets your mail other than yourself, it's quite obvious what it is cause it sure isn't junk mail!

LOL I hadn't thought of that! My mail lady is my friend! She knows everyone's business, she tells me.

Oh well, I guess I'll be famous for awhile, maybe this is going to be my 15 minutes of fame. Sure wish it was over something a little better then BK!

I've gotten those. They do not piss me off. I set off the chain of events that warrants that correspondence.

What pisses me off is private companies that WANT my business and do not have enough common sense to be discreet. That is STUPID on their part IMO. And I would never, ever, do business with them after such an action....... I might even badmouth them...which I intend to do as soon as I find the damn thing.

I live in a small mountain town and our mailman has been around forever (before we moved here) and he is the biggest gossip!!! When I first moved here (he's an older, very small, grandpa-type black man), the first thing he told me was, "now, I'm not one to gossip...but, *so-and-so (neighbor girl) but a change of address in and DIDN'T check the family box!" Needless to say the couple was seperating within a year of marriage...goes to show you, the mailman KNOWS EVERYTHING!!!

Yeah, they DO talk. I've witnessed it.

Even if you were to have a PO Box, its likely someone is still screening your mail!

What would you do to pass the time between shoving mail and passing stamps?

THESE PEOPLE. They know things. Insert twilight zone music here.

Don't worry about it, statistically at least some of the people you know have filed bankruptcy in the past. I was surprised by how many associates had filed.

One reason our finances are in such shoddy shape in this country is we refuse to talk about them and that's not the right approach.

This is so true. Although, I've haven't told anyone that we are filing for BK, I was at work and 3 coworkers were talking, the topic turned to BK and I was surprised that both my co workers have filed years ago! Goes to show you, people just don't talk about it...like it's taboo or something!
