Waited more than a year and filed today.

More than a dozen credit card accounts with most of the big names everyone knows including mutliple accounts at some of the biggest ones. (The names start with the first four letters of the alphabet plus a few others.) I Waited more than a year without making any payments before filing and dealt with the collection calls fairly painlessly. I sent out a half dozen Debt Validation Letters and only ever got one response. Even four collection lawfirms left me alone after a while.

The largest single account was over $30,000 and the total was nearly $150,000 and that's only credit cards. Only a mortgage and a couple secured accounts beyond those.

Although we were deep in debt and destined for ruin sooner or later, the decision to stop paying creditors allowed us to cope with an ongoing medical problem that had us spending about 25% of our gross income on medical expenses last year and almost 20% every month so far this year.

I'll post deatils in the Blog section regarding the process and especially if anything happens that other people can benefit from knowing. I'm crossing my fingers and praying that everything turns out okay.

Discharged November 2008 100 days after filing no-asset Chapter 7. We intended to let a two-year-old vehicle go back to the bank and reaffirm an inexpensive ten-year-old SUV and our home mortgage. In the end we surrendered ALL of our vehicles and reaffirmed NOTHING. We'll "ride through" our mortgage after the court ruled it an undue hardship.

      Congrats on filing .

I hope the medical condition improves so after all this, I had a lot of physical and mental troubles due to the stress caused by a heavy burden of debt. After filing I started to feel a bit better, and then after discharge I felt a lot better. I hope you'll find some relief as well.
