How long does the process take?

On average, how long does the process take from the time a person files until the time of discharge?

    #2
for chapter 7 it is usually discharge within 3-6 months of filing unless you are an asset case, in which it can take longer.
    Filed 7/28/08, Discharged 10/29/08
(filed pro se: nonconsumer no asset CH7)

An asset case in bk means, you have assets above the exemption level for your state that the trustee is going to liquidate and distribute to creditors.
In general, you have your 341 meeting within 30 days of filing. Creditors have 60 days from that date to file any objections. If none, your discharge will happen within a few days after the 60 day period expires.

... and if you are or become an asset case it is still possible to be discharged on time. We had all kinds of complications in our case (above median, UST was involved and we had assets to transfer to the case trustee) but were still discharged 62 days after our first 341 hearing.

Oh...okay. Well, then I shouldn't have an asset case.

Just under 4 months on average from the time you file until you get your discharge.
