I lost my ss card after yesterday's hearing - help!

    ARGH!!

I lost my driver's license and social security card after yesterday's hearing. I had them both in my file folder of stuff for easy access and placed them back in my folder after showing proof of identity. Well, stupid STUPID me should have put them in my purse - to hell with wasting the court's time. I didn't even realize they weren't in the folder until my license came back to me in today's mail (bless the man who found it).

    Unfortunately, no social security card.

So now what? I don't think anyone's going to be opening up lines of credit any time soon with what I'm sure my scores must be, but what should I do to protect myself? How screwed am I?

I would try calling the courthouse and see if anyone there found it. Other than that, just keep an eye on your credit report for any unauthorized inquiries and accounts.

If you have not yet done so call the SS Administration and advise them what happened and they will advise you what to do.

Yeah, I really don't think any of us need to worry about ID theft LOL

I think you just need to order I new card. Funny that you got your license but not your SS card. Maybe you lost them at 2 different locations. Good luck

Now you have to keep your eyes open so nobody would be able to open cc in your name. Sorry to hear that.

Unfortunately BK is its own protection in this case. Chances are someone out looking to steal your identity will be disappointed (same if they stole mine). My credit scores won't get them anywhere.

I agree with the suggestion to call the courthouse just in case it fell out and someone turned it in and go to the SS office to get another one. Another suggestion is to put a note on your credit report clearly stating that you lost your ss card and the date you lost it. You can also put a note in there that says to contact you prior to issuing any new credit in your name. There's no guarantee, but I did it back when I suspected my ex was shady and might use my credit without my authorization.

It's not much but it might help.

Ypu could put a fraud alert on your credit files, anyone trying to open credit would have to call you to confirm that you actually applied for credit. I did that some time back, it was a PITA when I was applying for credit to buy a car (all 10 potential lenders....you know how dealers do that), but at least I *KNEW* they were my applications, not fraud.

The official website of the Federal Trade Commission, protecting America’s consumers for over 100 years.

Calling any one of the 2 agencies will place the alert on all of them. It is initially good for 90 days, but you can renew if it becomes a problem. You can also remove it at will within 90 days.

Did the Trustee return the card?

I only ask because it is possible its in your folder if he handled it personally. I'd also in addition to the good notes above notify your lawyer.
