also danaf is right - less pesky junk to feel obligated to list out in exemptions.
And less to move and/or put in storage, for those of us in foreclosures-to-be.

Another idea, in addition to Craigslist and yard sales...check your jewelry box for broken gold jewelry, etc. Gold is HIGH right now, and there's a lot of jewelers advertising they pay cash.

I didn't have much at all, just a few broken, tiny pieces. I got $53 cash

ack, careful. you can get more for that on eBay than from one of those fly by night send me your gold companies. People are paying by weight. Do your research.

I can't imagine getting more on eBay for a broken piece of jewelry. I also suggested a local jewelry store that buys gold, where you get the cash instantly, not the ones you have to send your stuff in my mail (and then hope you get paid, sometime in the future).

There's a value to getting cash now, a sure thing and easily, verses hassling with eBay.

You're welcome The stuff I had was really nothing and light-weight, so I thought even if they did buy it, it would be maybe $15. I was shocked when he said $53.

The best part was it was easy, took no more than 5 minutes and I had cash. For me, my time counts for something.

Well my mistake for not realizing that you weren't talking about one of those gold houses. I do know that those places do not pay market because I looked into it. May I ask what the items weighed or do you know? I am only asking because I still have more to sell and am curious if local would be comparable to what I have gotten on eBay.

If you don't know, no matter. But just an FYI---there are tons of people buying broken, kinked gold, mismatched earrings etc because they are betting that the price of gold will go up. They are hoarding it right now and just going to melt it down so they don't care if it's broken or incomplete. It's sold as "scrap".

And I do agree that time is money. I'm glad you made some nice change.

I'm not sure what it all weighed, but it couldn't have been much. That's why I was so surprised when I got $53! The jeweler exam each piece (some were even 10k, and I wasn't sure they'd even take that, but he did), then weighed it and came back to tell me what they would pay. I was happy.

I liked the fact of dealing with someone local and in person. I could see him weigh it, and also, rather than a check I'd get from those mail order companies, I got cash. I like cash
