Nervous wreck - 341 in less than 3 hours

I was fine until about an hour ago... I even slept well last night! Now, however, my stomach is in knots, my hands are shaking and I'm all wound up. I know it will be fine. But darned if my nerves will listen to my brain. I'm tempted to take a Xanax (my doc prescribed it for panic attacks when this all started but thankfully I've only had to use it twice) but I want to do this unmedicated.

I've gone through my bankruptcy folder a few times today to make sure I have everything - latest pay stubs, bank statements more recent than the ones my lawyer has, receipts for everything I spent my tax refund and stimulus on, even the letter from my bank that shows I surrendered my car. I'm ready. I'm prepared. I just wish the bats flopping around in my stomach would go back to being butterflies

Bal_ny, you are going to be fine. Just make sure you have your picture ID and SS card. Good positive vibes and thoughts are heading northward for you!!!

Try to be there early and watch others before you. You will get the hang of what thie Trustee is like. You will do fine. Answer him with extreme politeness, "yes sir", "no sir", etc. It will go easy. 'Hub
If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

wow, if I took a xanax going into a 341 meeting, I would probably fall asleep.

Meh, I get myself so worked up I don't even feel the drugs. I was prescribed a Valium before an MRI once and even though I took it a half hour before as directed, it had no effect on my nerves until AFTER the MRI was over and I'd calmed down on my own.

Thanks for the kind words, gang. I'll let you know how it goes.

Good luck today! That tight, sick feeling in your stomach is completely normal. It won't last forever, but it might last all day. I hope after it's done you have a sense of relief, though.

I wasn't nervous at all yesterday, and there were a lot of people there.

                            I lived through it

It was nothing like what I expected... I pictured a regular courtroom with me, my lawyer and the trustee at a table with a judge presiding. Nope! It was a conference room (like you'd see at a Holiday Inn or something) with a large table at one end and rows of chairs for spectators. No judge in sight; just the trustee, his clerk and the lawyers with their clients. There wasn't a creditor in sight for any of the cases.

                            The questions were basic:
                            • Is this your signature on the petition?
                            • Have you declared all assets and debts?
                            • Do you still reside at xxxxx?
                            • Do you rent or own?
                            • Have you owned property in the last 6 years?
                            • Where do you work?
                            • What do you do for them?
                            • Is that full-time?
                            • 12 months or 10?
                            • Do you have any minor children living at home?
                            • Do you receive support for that child?
                            • Are you entitled to support?

I answered everything "yes" or "no" and he didn't ask me to elaborate about my son or my living arrangements (my son's dad and I have been together for 17 years, although unmarried, and I was worried that questions related to his income might come up... nope).

He asked about my car, which I told him I'd already surrendered. He asked how I was getting around; I told him that a friend loaned me a car temporarily (no further questions about that). He asked if I was reaffirming my loan for an ATV through Yamaha (nope, they are welcomed to it). He confirmed that my loan through Chrysler was a vehicle I cosigned for and not actually for a vehicle I own... and that was it - "no further questions, have a nice day."

There were others there that were a mess. One woman's petition said she was single with $4000/mo. in expenses but only $1500 in income; turns out she's been married for 4 years and her attorney screwed up her paperwork. She was adjourned and they have to redo everything. Then there was the married woman who was filing alone who holds the title to two vehicles and was hoping to keep both. Um, no. I'm glad I wasn't either of them.

Oh. And the trustee was NOT an ogre. He commented on how nervous I looked as I sat down and told me not to be, it would be fine. He also stared hard at my drivers license until I explained I'd had a bad dye job - I got a laugh! Really, unless you've got some complicated stuff going on or your lawyer's a screw up, you'll be fine

How relieved are you? The 341 was the biggest cause of stress for me and once it was over the biggest weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Congratulations!
