    The Calls Are Starting :(

Two of my seven credit card companies have started calling and call ALL day! One is a discover card that is about a week late and the other is my ATT citi card.

When should we start interviewing attorneys? Do the cards need to be "x" amt of months late before we should file?

    Thanks
    C.

There are no time restrictions on filing. You may consult with a lawyer and file any time you like.

Just be sure you haven't bought anything expensive with the cards 60 days before filing. An attorney will go over that with you. You're not obligated to talk with the creditors and an attorney may be able to get them to stop. Most likely it will take filing bk to do it so talk with attorney and see how soon you can file. Get a cell phone and end your phone service at home. One less place they can pester you.

If I were you I would search around and find an attorney you like. We only had to put $100 down and our attorney took our case and gave us our reference I.D. number and had us to tell the bill collectors to contact him. I was amazed how easy this was, we had over $65,000 in CC's. Every company was very nice when I told them to contact my attorney from then on. They just took the information and told me from then on all communication would be through my attorney. It sorta scared me how nice they were, probably just in a hurry to get off the phone so they could hurry up and sue me. Even if we had decided to go with a different attorney I think it would have been worth the $100 we put down to avoid the harassment from the CC's.
        Good Luck Dennis

wow $100 - that is great. Our atty charged $2k - we did it in $500 payments over 4 months.... but we did give out her name and number to the creditors calling upon our first payment and they stopped fairly quickly. I also contacted a few of them myself and let them know the situation. Before that I turned the ringer OFF and put the answering machine on..... good luck!

100$ down to retain the attorney, not for the attorney fee
