Exactly how do they figure you gross income?

I was just wandering how they figure up your gross pay for the last six months? My wife and I both get paid every 2 weeks, do they just add up your last so many paychecks and divide by how many pays there would have been - then multiply by the number of weeks or what? For example, I got paid on Jan. 4 but that included that week and the week before it.
I'm just trying to figure it out because I know we are verly close to the median for a family of five.
    Thanks Dennis

In our experience, and from what I have read here, your attorney will ask you for your paystubs for the past six months. Some may ask for more than that. They will also ask for any bonuses you may have gotten during that period. Or dividends for stock, or some other unexpected windfall that falls in the requested time period. They figure from that. I have read here of others having trouble because an unexpected bonus or gift has skewed the figures for the income.

We get paid 1st and 15th, they took each paystub for the 6 mths, added them together, then multiplied by 2.

Since we are filing in July, ours will be easy...take the year-to-date for each item on my pay stub and divide by 6

Doesn't matter how frequently you're paid, I think. Just take the last 6 months of checks ....That'll be 13 checks for you and 13 checks from your spouse .....
