Are creditors given notice of the discharge?

I'm curious. I received a bill from a business creditor today and I called prepared to give the violation of the automatic stay speech. The rep told me that it was the final bill and that the account was closed. I also noticed that Discover closed my acct. and zeroed out my bill within a week of filing bk.

My question is, since some of my creditors were quick to write off the debt, are they given notification of my discharge or is the filing of bk enough for them to leave you alone? Am I the only one given notification when my case is discharged?

Devil's advocate: Just curious, what happens when a case is dismissed, how do creditors know?

Most creditors check your credit file each month (or more?) and it is reported on your credit reports.

All creditors receive notification of your Discharge either through USPS or electronically for the larger ones. Additionally, try not to confuse Dismissal with Discharge. If your case is dismissed, there cannot be a discharge.
