Ch. 7 timeline in CA

Hi, I'm new here, and I have a question about the timeline because I'm baffled at how long it's taking.

I filed Ch.7 in Los Angeles County onn 12/19/07, and my creditor meeting was on 1/15/08. My Ch. 7 is pretty simple... a condo, 1 car, (other car I'm keeping with a reaffirmation agreement), and 4 credit cards.

Per my filing paperwork, it says that my case should discharge by the second week of March. It's already the second week of May, and whenever I call my attorney's office, they just tell me that they haven't received any discharge paperwork, and that's all we're waiting for.

Is this unusual for a Ch. 7 to take this long? Is there anything my attorney can do in regards to following up? This bankruptcy has taken a toll on my family, and all I can look forward to is having this thing discharge so that I can begin to rebuild my credit history.

Update: Did some research on this site, and came up with this info from PACER:

Status: Awaiting Discharge
Begin Date: 1-22-08
Time in Status: 112 days

Status Set By: Meeting of Creditors Held and Concluded with No Asset Reports

Please remember Los Angeles is BIG, and probably has many more cases. Up here in Sacramento it's getting just as bad even though compared to LA Sacramento is a cowtown. Guess with the economy going downhill fast more and more people are filing.

No, even in a busy court two full months waiting for the discharge notice in a declared no-asset case is not normal.

Ask your lawyer to call your trustee's office for an update. If he/she doesn't want to call, then tell them that since you are a no-asset case and are two months beyond your objection date awaiting discharge, you would be happy to call the trustee yourself.

When you do call, ask the court clerk politely and directly - no frills and no detailed explanations needed - about the status of your case. My guess is that it's sitting overlooked in some pile somewhere and just needs a prompt to get it unearthed and moving again.

Following everyone's advice, I called the Los Angeles BK Court Clert inquiring my CH7 BK case. I kindly mentioned that the due date for objections was on 3-15-08, and I was wondering if there were any delays holding up the discharge of my case.

The clerk put me on hold to investigate...when he came back on the phone, he said that there was nothing holding it up and that they would discharge it immediately. And by immediately, he meant that same moment! It has already updated on PACER.

For those who replied to my questions this morning, thank you so much! This morning, I came into work with the cloud of my BK hanging over me...now I can go home with a discharge! woohoo!

Yep, same thing happened to me in Los Angeles. The clerk did my discharge after I waited for over month. They do them as they get to them. I was told they sometimes have over 100 BK's a day filed!!!
