    Not another tax stimulus question!

Hello I have a question about the much talked about stimulus check. We are not going to file bk until the end of July, so I was planning on using my check on home maintenance, the roof is practically falling in on our garage. Will it get me in trouble if I spend this money before we file? I was searching around in here earlier and someone said something about it would cause them to look at 2009 tax statements. Will the trustee keep monitoring our income after we file? If so, like how long? Just this year, or a year or two? Just worried here.
I was hoping I could keep all my receipts and use this on my garage (home maintenance).
    Thanks Dennis

Absolutely spend it before you file. Just keep receipts in case you're asked what you did with it.
Nobody will care what you do after discharge.

Dennis, I think you misunderstood what someone was saying in another post about 2009 taxes. Actually, I think they said or meant 2008 taxes. Can't remember for sure. But anyway, this whole stimulus thing will be over with in another couple months. (At least I hope so!) Eventually, though, people filing toward the end of this year will be worrying if they'll be able to keep their 2008 tax refunds. It would seem to me that July would be a good time to file because time will have passed since you used the stimulus check and also it'll be far enough away from January that you won't need to worry about a trustee wanting next year's refund.

I'm probably worried more about this then I should, but man this is alot of stress on somebody. We have never been late on a bill before. Today was the first time in my life I got a call from a bill collector telling me I was late on a payment. After I posted this message this morning I contacted my lawyer and he said don't worry about and spend the stimulus check, but just keep our receipts in case anything would ever be said. I am going to be putting a roof on our garage so I think that will fall under the home maintenance category.
        Thanks

I agree it's a lot of stress and I'm guilty of some worrying myself. Thank goodness for this forum! At least your lawyer is okay with you spending your stimulus check. My lawyer wants to leave it alone, even though it should be exempted. Not sure why, but hope to ask him about it early next week. You should be fine with the home maintainence/repairs type of stuff. And like your lawyer said, keep those receipts!
