Come on now Mike. We aren't judgmental here, we each have our own reasons for being here. We need to support each other, not snipe.

Each case is individual, different, and has mitigating circumstances that we aren't privy to.

        Good to hear southernbelle

(PS: Major Mike the unpaid utility portion was part of a failed business not sb's home. It just so happens her home utility bill is with the same electric company so they changed the home account number and required a new deposit which they can do )

I understand what you're saying and I'm sorry but I'm not going to be "nice" when I'm referring to MYSELF!!! Again, I said, I could NEVER let that happen, there is no excuse for it. I'd sell MY computer and get rid of internet access before letting my electricity go....I know people have it tough and have their own situations...but to me, there are ways to get around things....
Credit cards..I could care less about at this point
Electricity, I'd try to FIND A WAY ( SPEAKING FOR MYSELF ) to pay it!
          Filed: October 1, 2007 341: December 10, 2007
          CONFIRMED: December 10, 2007
Payment: $825 / Mo. for 5 Years-29 MONTHS OF Pmts Down 23 to go!

That's the thing dude. The original post was not about "what MM would do to avoid this situation?". It was about SB having utility issues.

Your comments HAD NOTHING to offer, other than another opportunity to put yourself up on a pedestal and proclaim that you would "never" get yourself in a similar situation. That type of proclamation comes across as rude, condescending and holier than thou. Something no one hear needs to hear. Especially on a continual basis.

What if you are on the utility you put through bankruptcy and your husband put the new utilities under his name for our rental. Will they cancel???

Hi welcome to the forum. I don't know exactly what you are asking--perhaps you might get a response if you start a new thread specific for your question!

Major, if you had ever been in a situation where is was feed the family and put gas in the car OR pay the utility bill on time, you might think differently. Some people are in a situation like that, and some are doing everything they can to NOT go on food stamps or public assistance. If they went on food stamps so they could pay the electric bill, would you criticize that, too? I know many people here in Florida that don't have anything to sell to pay their bills. I have been lucky, and have not been in THAT tight of a situation, but I have often been one missed paycheck away from it. Keep in mind, I have had a full time job (or two) since I was 17, I hate shopping, am very frugal, and I was still just one paycheck away from being desitute.
Here in this forum, most of us are here to help or to get help. Walk a mile in someone's shoes before you judge.

It depends largely on whether you filed jointly for bankruptcy or not. If you filed separately it most likely will not affect his bill, if you filed jointly then yes they are likely to do so.

                      Southernbelle,
Sorry to hear about the electric utility. I do want to thank you for sharing this piece of information as it is something I don't think I would have really imagined on my own.

So thanks for passing this information on .....good luck.

We had to do this too. We were behind with them when we filed, so they simply closed that account, opened another one and charged us a several hundred dollar deposit. Luckily they split it up in $50/mo increments to make it manageable. We got it back, but it took awhile. They did pay us interest on it, in the way of deducting the interest each month from our bill. They didn't send it back to us, but would randomly remove portions of it from our balance here and there. We were at least at the 2-3 year mark until that happened though!
