You know I just thought of something funny. My sister who is CPA for a large property group who makes more money then I can even imagine doesn't get a stimulus check, she makes too much money! LOL, So anyway, it seems that lawyers who are trustees might be mad because they don't get one so they want ours?? Could that be it, we need to pray for a poor trustee who understands what it's like to be broke? Just a thought.
Oh and just incase your wondering, no I can't borrow money from my sister even though she could pay off my debt a hundred times over, she leaving it all to my kids, she never married, no kids, just her and her dogs. She just wouldn't get anyone being in this boat, she is the smart one, me I am just the pretty one! I guess I would have to add my 2 cents here and say that just becuase you have filed chapter 7 does not in any way mean you are "debt free". Free of certain/some debt, yes, but debt free, hardly.
There are a lot of comments flying around about how people that filed at other times of the year didn't get a stimulus so why should the people that filed now get to keep it. I bet these same people would be pretty upset if the gov't withheld their stimulus checks or their tax refund becuase at some time in the past they received a chapter 7 discharge. Why is it necessary to kick people when they are down or be mean-spirited toward others?
Most of the people that filed Chapter 7 are "needy" as was stated above. A lot of people are having trouble putting gas in their cars to get to work or pay their bills like utilities and rent, now that they are so "debt free". Most people that filed a 7 aren't running around with loads of cash in their pockets and taking European vacations now that they are so debt free. The struggle to survive is still ever-present.

Again, I agree with you. I don't think once we file BK and it's behind us we will be on easy street, how can you be at almost $4.00 for a gallon of gas, or how about $3.44 for a gallon of milk? I mean we have 2 growing boys at home and they need to eat, and we need to get to work. We are trying really we are and still we struggle even after not paying cc. I heard on a morning news show that the people that are be hit the hardest by rising gas prices and food prices are the middle and lower class income people, well that's us and believe me we are being hit hard! As most people probably are on here. Sometimes I wonder what we will do if things keep going like they are. How will everyone make it. There aren't any high paying jobs left here, they are gone and I mean in the small town I live in. What's wrong with people wanting to keep this small check and doing something good with it for their families?Filed Chapter 7 June 4 ~ 341 July 20 ~Last day of objections Sept 18~Discharged/Closed Sept 21

I'm confused. I'm from MI and nothing said about the stimulus check. But I used my wildcard exemption to exempt my 2007 federal income tax returns. Do you think it depends on what state you filed with? I am one of the lucky ones which can opt for the federal exemptions.Filed 3/21/2008

It depends on your state. I am in CA and my attorney told me I can use my homestead exemp for the monies.

Is it correct though that if you owe federal taxes you do not recieve the stimulus? We filed BK and owe the IRS way more than the stimulus however, we just recieved a letter from the trustee demanding the stimulus. Which way is it??Filed!!04/23/2008[X] 341 5/27/2008[X]Converted to asset case 5/26/2008 [X]
